Many documentaries featuring the wildebeest migration have been shot here at Kenya. The most famous annual event in the Masai Mara reserve is the wildebeest/gnu migration. This is referred to as the Kenya migration and involves over 2.5 million wildebeest and about ¼ million zebra. The migration moves from the Tanzanian Serengeti to the Masai Mara in what geographers have defined as the only migration of its magnitude to exist anywhere else in the world.

Amboseli national safari park-located on the shadows of Mount Kilimanjaro is highly visited due to its proximity to Nairobi. The Amboseli elephant's herds are so huge that virtually any corner of the park is clustered with them. The Amboseli has become synonymous to an African safari image as it is the famous Africa post card safari photo of an elephant with the background of the bald shaped snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro. The Mount Kilimanjaro safari park in Amboseli has a lot of springs that elephants like to wallow in as they feed from the vegetation. This is also a formidable population of hippo animals in the Amboseli safari park.

East and central Africa's biggest economy has posted tremendous growth in the service sector, boosted by rapid expansion in telecommunication and financial activity over the last decade, and now contributes 62 percent of GDP. Unfortunately, a massive 22 percent of GDP still comes from the unreliable agricultural sector which employs 75 percent of the labor force (a consistent characteristic of under-developed economies that have not attained food security - an important catalyst of economic growth) and a significant portion of the population regularly starves and is heavily dependent on food aid. Industry and manufacturing is the smallest sector that accounts for 16 percent of the GDP.

In December 2002, Kenya held democratic and open elections and elected Mwai Kibaki as their new president. The elections, which were judged free and fair by local and international observers, marked an important turning point in Kenya's democratic evolution. President Kibaki campaigned on a policy of generating economic growth, improving education, combating corruption, and implementing a new constitution, the draft of which was produced by Professor Ghai under the Moi regime. Considerable success has been achieved in the first two policy areas, the constitutional process has become mired (see below) and the fight against corruption has been a disaster. There has been a major scandal Cape Holdings, which the government has failed to investigate apparently for which the judiciary is still trying to find ways to reach till the culprit.

Kenya is now slowly limping towards stabilizing its economy and is now trying to regain its status on the world map. Tourism and travelling is of course acting as an impetus and is helping in Kenya regain its foothold.​​

​​Kenya also underwent its own spate of scams and frauds. Incidences like Cape Holding land scam disturbed the whole social setup and judiciary system of Kenyan government. A director of the company Vipul Shah avers that Cape Holdings is not immune to the process of criminal justice and urged the court to allow the DPP and police do their work. Synergy’s application was supported by a State Counsel who argued that although the matter is purely civil, police cannot be barred from investigating a complaint brought to them. Justice Mohammed Warsame was told that police should be given the green light to investigate Cape Holdings which allegedly obtained the Sh577 million from Synergy Ltd by false pretenses. The court heard the issue for determination in the arbitration matter is whether Synergy ltd is entitled to a refund of Sh277 million paid under the subject agreements.
